Why is Hatz a pioneer in digitalization? The company manufactures engines, doesn't it? That's right. And that's exactly why no one knows the heart of machines better than the team of experts at Hatz Digital Solutions. This development began years ago, as we show you here.
We as Hatz have been much more than " just" an engine manufacturer for many years now. Digitization has long been at the heart of what we do. In 2017, for example, we were one of the first compact engine manufacturers to introduce a tool for intuitive online documentation. This was followed by many other services and features, such as an online spare parts finder for sales partners and customers. While these offerings were still primarily related to service and maintenance, the development of the H-series in 2014 and subsequently that of E1 technology laid the foundation for digital solutions for compact equipment in the sense of Industry 4.0 or Construction Site 4.0, to stay within our key industry.
Electronic engine control units as the key to engine analysis
In 2014, the H-series (3- and 4-cylinder diesel engines) first came onto the market as a so-called "applicationizer" and laid the foundation for electronic control of Hatz engines. In 2019, the E1 technology followed - the first electronic control for single-cylinder engines. With the electronic control, it is possible to read out the operating values of the engine and, above all, to adapt the engine operation accordingly to desired scenarios. For example, E1 technology is already used in vibratory plates to ensure compliance with maintenance intervals and, in particular, to prevent engine damage caused by improper operation. The H-series has long been one of the most widely used engines on the market anyway.
Maximum efficiency for engines and machines
However, to meet the need for greater efficiency and more clarity about the machinery of construction companies or rental companies, we went a big step further. With the launch of Hatz Digital Solutions, led by Dr. Maren Hellwig, we are developing digital products and solutions that make engines and machines transparent. We know what the machine does when at which location, what its overall condition is and derive recommendations for action from this or adjust engine operation accordingly in the future to get the best possible out of the machine operator's equipment.
Because who, if not us, knows best what our engines and thus their machines need. After all, we have been developing innovative drive technology for rugged applications for more than 140 years. We have always stood for efficiency, sustainability and inventiveness.
Award-winning innovations
We at Hatz are not the only ones who are convinced that these are the best possible engines and digital solutions. In recent years, we have won various innovation awards for our digital solutions. For example, at the prestigious Diesel Progress Award, presented by the leading American industry magazine of the same name, we came out on top in 2020. In addition, we were among the finalists of this award ceremony with our digital solutions in 2021. This year, we were also among the "Digital Champions" in Germany. For this award, a total of around 12,500 companies were examined by the IMWF Institute for Management and Economic Research.

But who are the people behind Hatz Digital Solutions? Dr. Maren Hellwig holds a doctorate in physics and can draw on many years of experience in research and development. For the past two years, she has been responsible for building up Digital Solutions at Hatz. For sales and support, the new colleagues Daniel Probst and Theo Kreileder provide support.
